The path to Master Scuba Diver

PADI Master Scuba Diver is the highest non-professional rating. You need:

  1. Rescue Diver. After Advanced Open Water, take Rescue Diver.
  2. 5 PADI specialties. Specialties on this page count, and so do Enriched Air (Nitrox) and Emergency Oxygen Provider.
  3. 50 logged dives. Log every dive you make.

The minimum age is 12. We can take you all the way there. Master Scuba Diver · The full training path

First aid and oxygen

Emergency First Response is CPR, first aid and AED, at our Bayamón shop. You need CPR and first aid training from the past 24 months to do Rescue Diver, and it’s open to non-divers too.

Emergency Oxygen Provider teaches you to give emergency oxygen to an injured diver. No minimum age, no water sessions, and it fits right alongside Rescue.

Specialty questions

Which specialty should I take first?

Start with what you want to do more of. If you’re newly certified, Peak Performance Buoyancy helps on every dive after it. DSMB is short and adds a real safety skill. Want to go further? Night, Sidemount or DPV. Not sure? Call us and we’ll help you pick.

How many specialties do I need for Master Scuba Diver?

Five PADI specialties, plus Rescue Diver and 50 logged dives. Minimum age 12.

Do I need Advanced Open Water first?

For most of them, no. Open Water is enough. Search & Recovery needs Advanced (or Open Water plus Underwater Navigator), and Self-Reliant Diver needs Advanced and at least 100 logged dives. The first dive of many specialties can also count toward Advanced Open Water.

Is eLearning required?

For Night, Sidemount, DPV, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Underwater Navigator, Search & Recovery and Digital Underwater Photographer, yes. It’s bought separately from PADI. Buy it through our link so it connects straight to your instructor. If it isn’t done, you can’t start and we’ll have to reschedule. Full Face Mask, Fish Identification, Self-Reliant Diver and DSMB have no eLearning: your instructor covers the knowledge part with you.

Do I need my own gear and a dive computer?

Bring your own gear or rent it for $35, plus tax (BCD, regulator, mask, snorkel and fins). A dive computer is required on every dive: bring yours or rent one for $10, plus tax, when you book. Course equipment like the DPV scooter, the full face mask, a compass or a DSMB and reel is included. Night Diver lights rent for $25, plus tax.

Where are the specialties held?

From a protected shore site in San Juan or Vega Alta. You pick the town when you book. The meeting point and directions are in your confirmation email.

Can I cancel or reschedule?

Cancel at least 48 hours before your scheduled time for a full refund. Later cancellations and no-shows are charged in full. You can reschedule once, depending on availability. Read the full policy.
