How the course works

  1. PADI eLearning, at home. It’s required, and it’s bought separately from PADI. Buy it through our link so it connects straight to your instructor. If it isn’t done, you can’t start and we’ll have to reschedule.
  2. Set up before dark. Arrive 15 minutes early for check-in, gear setup and the briefing. We plan the dive together and set up surface lights for the entry and exit.
  3. Three dives, two nights. Light handling, signals, navigation, buoyancy and buddy procedures after dark, plus how to read conditions and plan your own night dives. Finish all three dives and you’re a PADI Night Diver.

Your lights

Every diver carries a primary light, a backup light and a marker light on the tank. Bring yours, or rent the set for $25, plus tax, when you book.

No working lights, no night dive. If your main light fails, you switch to the backup and end the dive safely. That’s one of the things you practice.

Before you come

  • Finish your eLearning and bring proof that it’s complete: a screenshot of the final page or the completion email works.
  • Bring your certification card, a dive computer and your lights, or rent them when you book.
  • Bring a swimsuit, a towel, dry clothes, sun protection for the setup before sunset, water and a snack, and shoes for a rocky or sandy entry.
  • Rental gear is BCD, regulator, mask, snorkel and fins. Add it when you book.
  • Restrooms are limited or not there at night, so stop before you come. The meeting point and directions are in your confirmation email.
  • Haven’t dived in 6 to 12 months? A refresher first is strongly recommended.

Night Diver questions

Why is it done over two nights?

Spacing the dives gives you better pacing, real rest and time for the skills to sink in, and conditions tend to be more stable. It’s the standard way we run the course.

Can I do all three dives in one night?

Only on special request. It depends on weather, surf, how ready you are and instructor availability. Extra fees may apply for the longer night.

What if my light fails?

You switch to your backup light and end the dive safely. That’s why every diver carries two working lights.

How deep are the dives?

No deeper than about 30 ft (9 m), the maximum depth at our training sites.

What will we see?

Night dives often show crustaceans, reef fish sleeping, octopus and coral polyps feeding. Different animals, different behavior.

Is eLearning required?

Yes. It’s bought separately from PADI. Buy it through our link so it connects straight to your instructor. If it isn’t done, you can’t start and we’ll have to reschedule.

Can I cancel or reschedule?

Cancel at least 48 hours before your scheduled time for a full refund. Later cancellations and no-shows are charged in full. You can reschedule once, depending on availability. Read the full policy.
