How the course works

  1. PADI eLearning, at home. It’s required, and it’s bought separately from PADI. Buy it through our link so it connects straight to your instructor. If it isn’t done, you can’t start the water days and we’ll have to reschedule.
  2. Day 1, San Juan or Vega Alta. Adventure dives from a protected shore site, including underwater navigation: compass work and finding your way back without one.
  3. Day 2, Aguadilla. Your deep dive, plus the rest of your adventure dives. Plan for the drive. We confirm the meeting point and start time for day 2 with you.

The five dives

Two are set by PADI: Deep and Underwater Navigation. You choose the other three with your instructor, based on what you want to get better at.

Each adventure dive is a taste of a specialty. Some can count toward the full specialty later, like Peak Performance Buoyancy or Night Diver.

When you finish, you’re a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, certified to dive to 30 meters (100 ft).

Before you come

  • Finish your eLearning and bring proof that it’s complete (your eRecord).
  • Bring your certification card and a dive computer, or rent one when you book.
  • Bring a swimsuit, a towel and dry clothes.
  • Rental gear is BCD, regulator, mask, snorkel and fins. Add it when you book.

After Advanced

Most divers add Nitrox next, then Rescue Diver. Or pick a specialty and get really good at one thing. See the full training path.
