How the course works

  1. PADI eLearning, at home. It’s required, and it’s bought separately from PADI. Buy it through our link so it connects straight to your instructor. If it isn’t done, you can’t start the water days and we’ll have to reschedule.
  2. Rescue skills. Self-rescue, helping a tired or panicked diver at the surface, towing, getting a diver out of the water. Skills come one at a time, in calm water, before anything gets realistic.
  3. Scenarios. Then you put it together: your instructor sets up emergencies, up to an unresponsive diver underwater, and you run them.

CPR and first aid

You need CPR and first aid training from the past 24 months to do Rescue. No card, or it’s expired? Take our Emergency First Response class before your Rescue days.

Add oxygen

A lot of Rescue students add Emergency Oxygen Provider: how to give emergency oxygen to an injured diver. It’s not required, but it fits right alongside Rescue. Add it when you book.

Before you come

  • Finish your eLearning and bring proof that it’s complete (your eRecord).
  • Bring your cards: Advanced Open Water and your CPR/first aid card.
  • Bring a swimsuit, a towel, dry clothes, water and snacks.
  • Rental gear is BCD, regulator, mask, snorkel and fins. Add it and a dive computer when you book.

Is it hard?

It’s physical: towing, lifting, a lot of time at the surface. You should be comfortable in the water. Skills build up step by step, with your instructor right there, and you come out a much better buddy.

After Rescue: specialties, then Master Scuba Diver. See the full training path.
