Snorkeling with kids: gear that actually fits
Parents come in with kids all the time, from babies to teenagers. Here’s what fits, and how to make the first time a good one.

What ages?
Most kids who come in for snorkel gear are around 4, 5, 6 and up. Then you’ve got the teenagers, who often fit adult sizes or close to it.
The smallest size we carry
Our smallest is a Cressi kit made for kids ages 3 to 6. It comes with a mask, a snorkel and fins, all in kid sizes. For bigger kids, we fit the mask to their face the same way we do for adults. Our mask fit guide shows how.
A kid’s first time in the water
Don’t rush it. It has to come from them, and it has to be where they’re comfortable. If at any point they show you they’re uncomfortable, don’t push it.
You don’t want to scare them away from something you know will be good for them in the long run, for their health and for their head. There’s something about snorkeling, scuba diving and freediving that makes us feel different, and feel good, while we’re in the water.
Start in calm, shallow water, close to an adult. The snorkeling page has the basics for Puerto Rico.
When they want more
Kids can try scuba from age 8 with PADI Bubble Maker, and get certified from 10. Our kids and scuba guide explains the ages and depth limits.
Bring them in and let them try the gear on. It’s a lot easier than guessing sizes online.
